Individual psychotherapy is about the process. It is a therapeutic process that begins from the time you make the appointment to the end of your healing journey. Psychotherapy is also known as talk therapy because the time in therapy is spent exploring (through talking) the challenges or hurdles to your development and the personal patterns that may be perpetuating your stressors.

Psychotherapy is a deep process as it hones in on the psychological difficulties, emotional challenges or personal issues that one may face over time. It is a collaborative process between the psychologist and the client, as the psychologist will guide and support the client in gaining insight, setting goals and achieving personal growth and development. 

During individual psychotherapy, the psychologist may use various techniques and approaches based on the client's needs, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, or humanistic approaches. 

My aim as the psychologist is to provide a safe, confidential space for the client to explore and process emotions, resolve internal conflicts, and to work through challenges like anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues or stress etc. 

Ultimately, individual psychotherapy is about coming to the session with your entangled thoughts, behaviours or patterns, and spending time with the psychologist to untangle the knots to provide insight, understanding and change for future growth and sustainability.
